Cool Pictures to Draw

I have been sharing some of these drawing ideas with my students, and it is amazing to watch what they do with them.  The drawing ideas on this blog will help kids generate their own drawing ideas.  Today, I wanted to share a simple trick that helps kids get creative with their drawings.

The idea is to exaggerate when you are drawing.  Try it.  Take one drawing of yours and just change one part of it by exaggerating.  Keep doing it.  It works amazingly well.  In this video, I give a really simple example.  You can see how the drawing idea adds life to the drawing.  I hope you find that it helps you to draw some cool pictures.

Cool Easy Drawings

At the beginning of the year, many of my students are worried that their artwork doesn't look realistic and they take it personally when their drawings don't look exactly like the real thing.  I've seen this have a huge effect on kids.  Sometimes they get so frustrated that they stop creating and label themselves as "unartistic"  or "not creative".  Recent research supports the power of art to help kids remember and learn new things.  All of the common core math, involves making drawings.  Drawing is important.  It is visual thinking.  It sets the mind free and unlocks creativity.  Kids should be encouraged to create.
